June & July Racing Update
Over the last month Doug has raced several times. The highlight during this stretch was a 5th place finish at Crossville Raceway on 6/9. After a rain out at Crossville on 6/16 we also ran there on 6/30 (7th) and last weekend where we finished 11th in a big field of 24 late models. On 6/19 we made our first trip to 411 Speedway in Seymour, TN for the Tuesday Night Tango. After suffering some car problems we look forward to going back there for Thursday Night Thunder on July 28th. Before then though, we plan on competing tomorrow night at Crossville Raceway and again this coming Tuesday Night during Late Model Mania at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN where the limited late models will compete for $1,000 to win.
Memorial Day Weekend in Kentucky
For Memorial Day Weekend we decided to head north into Kentucky for a triple header weekend of super late model racing. The first night was a $2,000 to win event at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY where we were credited with a 20th place finish. The second night was a $3,000 to win event at Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY. With a big field of 30 cars on hand Doug finished 5th in his heat race to easily transfer to the main event where he collected a 12th place finish. The final race of the weekend was a $3,000 to win event at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY. A big field of 29 cars and some very rough track conditions led to a tough night where in the end we came up one spot short of transfering from the b-main into the 18 car starting field.
2012 Season Has Begun
Doug Smith Motorsports has kicked off the 2012 season over the last couple of weekends. For 2012 we've decided to run our Warrior in the limited late model division at our many area tracks. On 5/5 we kicked the year off with a trip to Crossville Raceway in Crossville, TN where we finished 10th. On the weekend of May 18/19 we ran on Friday night at Spring City Speedway in Spring City, TN where we were credited with a 4th place finish. The following night we headed back up to Crossville Raceway where we qualified 5th, ran 4th in the fast car dash, and raced to a 3rd place in the feature event.
STARS VRS Banquet
Following the STARS Volunteer Racing Series finale weekend at Boyd's Speedway and Cleveland Speedway, Doug Smith Motorsports ended up 3rd place in the final series point standings. Eric Jacobsen claimed the series title with Ross White finishing runner-up. The series banquet was held last weekend at Red Bones on the River in Kingston, TN where Doug collected his third place trophy along with many other prizes.
VRS Finale Weekend - Boyd's & Cleveland
This weekend Doug Smith Motorsports will travel to Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, GA and Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, TN for the finale weekend of the Volunteer Racing Series season. At Boyd's the drivers will be competing for a $3,000 top prize while Cleveland will feature a unique format of three $1,000 to win feature events. We commited to running the series in May after missing the first few races but are currently tied for third place in VRS point standings thanks to a couple of strong results, most notably a 10th place finish at Bulls Gap on August 6th and an 11th place at Wartburg Speedway on May 28th.
